Student Centered Learning
When you attend a dog training class at Outrun, there are two students - the human and the dog. Together you formulate your handling team. Our training coaches work with you to determine the best approach for both members in your team.
In each of our classes, our goal is to help you meet your individualized goals. We group our sessions around a common topic/goal and our trainers move around the class to work with each client one-on-one.
Training teams have the freedom to choose tasks, projects, and goals. Training coaches provide instructions and exercises that will help their students meet their goals.
Montessori Learning vs. Outrun Training
There are many similarities between Montessori Learning and Outrun Training.
Flexible curriculum: Neither Montessori nor Outrun have a made-to-order curriculum. Students can choose their own activities and tasks, with guidance from the teacher/trainer. They can also mostly work at their own pace.
Decentralized learning: Montessori and Outrun teachers rarely give whole-class lectures. Students usually work independently or in groups, and pursue their individual interests/goals.
Holistic education: Both Montessori and Outrun classes aim to educate the whole student. In addition to core academics, they place lots of emphasis on learning practical skills, developing the right character traits, and learning important values.
Concrete learning: Both the Montessori and Outrun approach emphasize concrete learning. Teams work with lots of hands-on material and learn important practical skills.
